Based on the initial data as of August 1 of this year, the number of the economically active population in Azerbaijan has been 5230,1 thousand people of which 4881,5 thousand people have been the employed population, the State Statistics Committee told APA-Economics.
In comparison with relevant period of the last year, the number of the economically active population has increased by 0,96%, while the number of the employed population has decreased by 0,94%.
As of July 1 of the current year, the number of hired workers made up 1695,1 thousand people, including 922,1 thousand people working in the public sector of economy, and 773,0 thousand people working in non-public sector of economy. 34,1 thousanmd people worked in oil and gas sector of economy, while 1661,0 thousand people worked in non-oil-and-gas sector.
During the first half of 2020, 84,8 thousand new jobs were created in the country. 44,6% of the jobs created during that period were opened in non-public sector.
Besides, during the first half of 2020, 5,9 thousand jobs were closed in the country. 61,3% of the jobs closed during that period fell to the share of the non-public sector. 42,3% of the jobs were closed in connection with suspension of functioning of enterprises and organizations, while 57,7% - were closed in connection with the staff reductions conducted in the currently functioning enterprises and organizations.
