‘Today, important facilities for economy and potential of industry are launched, which will put an end to dependence on import. This makes me happy because our main goal is to increase local production, reduce dependence on import and create new jobs’, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said during his visit to Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park.

The head of state said a foundation stone for a float glass factory was laid today: ‘After start of this factory, Azerbaijan will stop import of glass and export glass itself. As hundreds of sky-scrapers, new buildings are built in Baku, there will be a great demand for glass. You know that we pay attention to development of carpet weaving recently and ten carpet factories have been launched in a short period. More ten factories will be launched next year and thirty factories in total are planned to be built. Of course, successful operation of these factories, it’s needed local material. Foundation of spinning and dyeing factory was laid today. This is a facility to be created through state funds. Thus, we’ll provide all carpet-weavers with our own materials’.

The president also noted that a foundation of cigarette factory was also laid today: ‘This factory is also of great importance. We are not dependent on cigarette import. Of course, we all want the cigarette consumption in Azerbaijan to be reduced. However, this has not been achieved yet. Domestic production must replace foreign production. The production of this factory will meet 50 percent of the domestic need. I’m sure that we’ll meet 100 percent of our demand and export cigarette in the future’.

The head of state also said that construction of pesticide factory has already been solved: ‘This is also a very important issue. Because we are dependent on import in this field too. Now, this plant will meet the domestic need and be able to export products. This will contribute to rural development. As a result of reasonable agro technical measures, we can increase the productivity significantly’.
