Bulgaria will replace half of the volumes of the gas imported from Russia with Azerbaijani gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG), Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova said while being on a visit to Washington, "APA-Economics" reports citing Bulgaria’s Energy Ministry.

She said Bulgaria will reduce procurement of Russian gas by 50% by the end of this year.

Bulgaria will continue to diversify gas supply sources and routes, and as a result of this, half of the country’s annual gas consumption in the volume of 3 billion cubic meters (1.5 billion cubic meters) will be satisfied at the expense of the gas and liquefied natural gas purchased from Azerbaijan, T. Petkova noted.

"This is an important step in terms of development of transparent, liquid and reliable natural gas market not only in Bulgaria, but also in the whole region", T. Petkova added.
