Armenia’s intention to restore the historical Azerbaijani mosque in Shusha is an attempt to cover up the vandalism it did to Azerbaijani cultural-religious monuments in the occupied territories, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Gunduz Ismayilov told APA.

He was commenting on the agreement between the self-proclaimed Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and an Iranian company on restoration of Yukhari Govharagha Mosque in Armenia-occupied Shusha town of Azerbaijan.

Ismayilov said that Armenians have destroyed almost all of Islamic monuments in the occupied Azerbaijani territories while also grigorianising sanctuaries of the Caucasian Albania period.

“The international community already knows these realities. Armenia’s vandalism has been exposed worldwide,” he said adding. “So they are now making attempts to change the situation. As for the fact that the mosque is being restored by a Muslim company, it’s neither Islamic nor humane because Armenians have insulted all Muslims, not only Azerbaijanis, by keeping animals in mosques. Such so-called Muslims disrespect international law and the tragedy committed in Karabakh. Let them at least respect their beliefs. Where were these zealous Muslim companies while those mosques were being destroyed?” he said.
