Two percent of Azerbaijan’s population is Christians. There is no any religious, national confrontation between us, said Father Alexander, APA reports.

Archbishop of Baku and Azerbaijan Eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church, Alexander Ischein made the remarks at the meeting with students of International Multicultural Winter School from 16 countries on Feb.18.

Father Alexander noted that the Christians are represented in Azerbaijan's state bodies, parliament and social fields: “Religious persecution was observed during the Soviet era. After gaining independence, religion has taken a worthy place in the country. New mosques, churches, synagogues were opened in Azerbaijan. Religion doesn't divide, but unites the people,” he noted.
