Baku. Malahat Najafova – APA. “Perhaps someone thinks that my visit to Azerbaijan for 600-700 believers is a waste of time,” said Pope Francis addressing the Mass held at the Christian Church in Baku Oct. 2.

“This [Azerbaijan] is not a monoethnic country with a single religion. You speak here in English, Spanish, Russian, and Azerbaijani,” said the Pope.

“Sometimes this community is left out of the church. In this sense, the Pope seeks to resemble the Holy Spirit, who descended from the heaven upon a small community in Jerusalem. At the time, Jerusalem was out of the church, too. These doors opened in seconds. Now the Pope is losing time just like the Holy Spirit.”

“Two things are very important: Never forget your mother and march forward fearlessly,” he said.

Pope Francis arrived in Azerbaijan for a one-day pastoral visit on Oct. 2.

The papal plane landed in Baku’s Heydar Aliyev international airport, where the Pontiff was greeted by the first deputy prime minister of Azerbaijan Yaqub Eyyubov as well as other officials.
