"Commissioning of the motor car bridge built over Samur river will increase tourist flow from Russia to Azerbaijan", said Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev at the opening ceremony of the motor car bridge built over Samur river and crossing AZerbaijani-Russian border, "APA-Economics" reports.

"Most tourists use wheeled transport. From this point of view, the commissioning of the bridge will also exert positive influence on growth of number of tourists. While this year about 900 thousand tourists from Russia have already arrived Azerbaijan, we intend to bring this number up to 1 million. The commissioning of the bridge will also make its positive contribution to achieving of this target", Sh. Mustafayev said.

He noted that the commissioning of the bridge would serve for elevation to higher level of the relations between the two countries in the areas of policy, economy and tourism.

Note that the project of construction of bridge over Samur river is implemented in the framework of the agreement signed between Russian and Azerbaijani governments in August 2013. The new bridge will replace the existing bridge built in 1957. The length of the bridge is 325.3 meters, and its width is 17.5 meters. The value of the project is AZN 36.5 million (approximately US$ 21.5 mln.). Russia and Azerbaijan have financed the construction works in equal parts.
