WTO Secretary-General: "Tourism sector lost $1,5 trillion due to pandemics in total"

"Pandemics has gripped the whole world, all the world has being closed for 2-3 months, borders of about 150 countries have not been opened yet", said Secretary-General of the UN World Tourism Organization Zurab Pololikashvili at the videoconference with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on June 30, APA reports.

He said that tourism has been a sector, which faced probably with most loss, greatest crisis: "Such case has never been experienced not only in Azerbaijan but also in the world history so far. We are experiencing a crisis that have never seen. The total volume of loss has been USD 1 trillion 500 million so far."

Zurab Pololikashvili spoke about done works during the last 2 months and noted that a crisis committee, involving active countries and relevant international organizations on regions, has been established since the first day, "Stay at home to travel tomorrow" campaign has been announced.

Speaking on cooperation between Azerbaijan and the World Tourism Organization, Zurab Pololikashvili stressed the support of the project of certification of hotels by President Ilham Aliyev and the organization with satisfaction.
