"Azerbaijani grandmaster Teymur Rajabov refused to participate in the 44th World Chess Olympiad in the national team," said his teammate Vasif Durarbeyli, APA reports.

He condemned Rajabov for this step: "I avoided commenting on this issue for a long time not to have problems with my teammate. If suddenly, Teymur Rajabov changed his mind and played for the national team, but this did not happen. We will soon know the reason for his refusal."

Notably, the chess player who will replace Rajabov at the Olympics has already been determined. Nijat Abasov will go to India as a captain of the national team instead of the 35-year-old grandmaster. Along with him, Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Rauf Mammadov, Gadir Huseynov, and Vasif Durarbeyli will take part in the team.
