Dmitry Rogozin, the director general of Russia's space agency Roscosmos, said on Monday that the agency will be able to reach Mars and land a spacecraft on the Red Planet within eight to 10 years, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Speaking in an interview for Mir TV channel, he stated that technical means necessary for the mission will be developed in the said timeframe. "If the country is ready to finance this program and if the nation says that it is needed, Roscosmos specialists will provide this program, I guarantee you," he emphasized.

Russia is the leading producer of technologies needed to conquer deep space, he also noted, especially mentioning the space tug with a nuclear engine that the agency plans to deploy in 2030 as an example of such technology.
