Dmitry Peskov: “Baku is a crucial partner of Moscow”

“Russian – Azerbaijani relations have ancient history, partnership and friendship traditions. Today these relations are very close”, said press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov to APA’s special correspondent assigned to Saint Petersburg.

According to him, Azerbaijan is one of the key partners of Russia in South Caucasus: “A range of common interests joins Russia and Azerbaijan. First of all, cultural relations between our people join us together”.

Kremlin spokesman stated that economical relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are successfully developing: “Economical partnership exists between two countries. We are also cooperating in Caspian Sea basin. More importantly, we are cooperating in the issues like stability and security of the region. The issues that I have mentioned are common interests that join Russia and Azerbaijan. Baku is a very important interlocutor and partner of Moscow”.

Answering the question about the possibility of holding a high-level meeting on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with the initiative of Russia in the near future, and discussion of any particular issue of the conflict resolution at the President Vladimir Putin's meeting with the Armenian Prime Minister within a recent Petersburg forum, D.Peskov stated that this issue has not recently been discussed.
