Egyptian and Russian air forces started a joint drill for the first time in Egypt, Egyptian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Friday, APA reports citing Xinhua.

"The joint exercise aims to transfer and exchange experiences and to carry out training on the tactical usage of the modern and advanced air defense system equipment between the two sides," said the statement.

The drill dubbed "Friendship Arrow-1" will continue for two weeks.

The preliminary stage of the training started with several theoretical and practical lectures that discussed the capabilities of the two countries' defense forces.

Carrying out the joint drill for the first time on Egyptian lands stresses the deep partnership and strategic cooperation between Egypt and Russia, added the statement.

The drill is part of the Egyptian armed forces' plan for implementing military activities to boost the military cooperation and to promote efforts of maintaining security and stability, it added.

Egypt regularly holds joint military exercises with other countries to boost military collaboration and exchange military expertise.
