The ex-president of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev admitted that he was firing at special forces attacking his house, APA reports citing TASS.

"My supporters did not have weapons; I personally shot during the attack," he said on Thursday to reporters.

However, Atambayev assured that he "tried not to get into" people. According to him, he is also ready to contribute to the release of detainees by his supporters during the assault on fighters of the Alpha special forces, which are now under guard in the former president’s house.

Since Atambayev has been refusing to obey subpoena on corruption suspicions, the special police units tried to detain him in his residence in the village of Koy Tash, located 12 miles away from the national capital of Bishkek. The situation turned violent, with the ex-leader's supporters repulsing the assault, preventing Atambayev from being captured. As many as 52 people were injured in clashes, while one security officer was killed.
