“I will not be his partner and ally if it develops on this way”. The Prime Minister said the government coalition wouldn’t be dissolved. She said they would continue to break work of the Parliament demanding to adopt the laws the government considers necessary. “We have a coalition, democratic president, democratic government and democratic parliament speaker. However government-proposed draft laws, including anti-inflation package have not been laid on the tapis for more than two months”. Timoshenko thinks that Yushchenko sees her as a main rival in the upcoming presidential elections and tries to reduce confidence to the Prime Minister.
First Deputy Prime Minister and candidate for the office of Kiev Mayor Alexandr Turchinov said they would try to make security agencies to subordinate to the government by the amendment to the Constitution. “We will demand amendments to the Constitution although the president will like it or not. We will make local authorities and security agencies to subordinate to the government and will establish order in the country”. Turchinov said the security agencies subordinated to the president at the present time didn’t make enough efforts to combat corruption and organized crime in the country. He said process of constitutional changes would last nearly 8 months.
It needs in 300 votes at least in the Parliament to make amendments to the Constitution. Yulia Timoshenko Block having 156 seats in the Parliament relies on the support of Victor Yanukovich’s Party of Regions in this issue. President Yushchenko also needs in the support of Party of Regions to prevent Yulia Timoshenko’s admonishment. Last developments show that Yanukovich will play decisive role in the political processes in Ukraine in the near future.
