Yerevan-APA. “The United States doesn’t intend to exclude Russia from the region of South Caucasus. Even if we want we can’t do that”, said David Kramer, US Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor during his visit to Armenia, APA quotes the News Armenia Agency. He said the United States provided fruitful cooperation with Russia and France within the OSCE Minsk Group and stimulated peace and stability in the region. Touching upon the domestic situation in Armenia, Kramer said the US wanted Armenia to be developed democracy. US assistant Secretary of State said they observed decline of democracy in Armenia in recent months and urged the government to solve this problem. He said the USA and other developed democratic countries based on the Human Rights Declaration had to express concern over the situation of democracy and human rights in Armenia. “The USA urged the Armenian government to lift constraints on freedom of expression and rallies, to release those detained on politically motivated charges, to conduct a serious and credible investigation on the March 1 events and to start a serious dialogue between the opposition and the authorities”. While speaking of the opposition’s rally of June 20, Kramer said they were glad that the rally was held without major incidents. “We hope there will be possibility for holding such rallies in future, and the opposition will not have to apply to the City Hall for 40 times to sanction a rally”.
