Former Moldovan President Igor Dodon has been charged with corruption and high treason, and the prosecution has asked the court to arrest him for 30 days pending trial, Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office spokesperson Mariana Cherpec said, APA reports citing Interfax.

"Dodon was indicted while being questioned on Wednesday; a case has been opened based on reasonable suspicions of a crime having been committed, as covered by [Moldovan Criminal Code] Article 324 (passive corruption), Article 181/2 (receiving financing by a political party from a criminal organization), Article 337 (high treason), and Article 330/2 (illegal enrichment)," Cherpec told journalists on Wednesday.

"The prosecutors have requested arrest warrants for former President Igor Dodon and his relative, who have been detained following searches. They have filed a motion to arrest them for 30 days. The court has yet to set a date and time for hearing the case," Cherpec said.
