Against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, the signing of the Memorandum between Azerbaijan and the European Union (EU) on the doubling natural gas transportation through the territory of Georgia is proof that the West and the United States are interested in peace in Georgia, APA's local bureau reports citing the joint statement by a group of deputies of the Georgian Parliament.

The statement reads that since the end of the 20th century, the USA has supported Georgia's role as a geopolitically important transit country in delivering alternative energy in the west of the Caspian Sea to Europe.

It was noted that with the help of the United States, Georgia's role in achieving long-term peace and stability after the 2nd Karabakh War has increased.

"The exchange of maps of mined areas with Armenians held in Azerbaijan through the mediation of Georgia and direct negotiations between the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Tbilisi prove that the USA and the West are interested in long-term peace and prosperity in the region and do not want war," the statement reads.
