Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned on Wednesday that Berlin is demonstrating the "revival of dominant aspirations" following the comments of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz revealing the country's intentions to be the European Union's major military power, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Following similar remarks by High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, the Russian foreign minister said that the bloc is aiming to force its Russophobic viewpoint on the majority. Lavrov insisted that the EU should promptly address Scholz's comments as such statements are not only "suggestive," but there is substantial evidence to back up such ambitions.

Previously, the head of the German government stated that Berlin will soon have "the largest conventional army in Europe within the framework of NATO" emphasizing that this will "significantly strengthen" the security of Germany and its allies.
