The government of Kazakhstan resigned before the beginning of the first session of the Parliament of the VIII convocation, APA reports citing AKI Press.

The corresponding presidential decree was signed and published on the Akorda website.

"In accordance with Constitution of Kazakhstan and the Constitutional Law on the government, in connection with the resignation of the government to the newly elected lower house of the Parliament, I order the government to fulfill duties until approval of its new composition," the decree says.

Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov earlier said that the Cabinet of Ministers was preparing to resign to the newly elected lower house. Until a new government is formed, all members of the government will perform their duties.

Alikhan Smailov's government was formed shortly after the January protests and functioned for more than a year.
