Western states stole more than $300 billion from Russia, which were on the accounts of Gazprom in Western banks as payment for Russian gas, said Sergey Lavrov, Russian Foreign Minister, APA reports citing TASS.

“Contracts that were signed before this situation provided for payments in dollars and euros. These payments were made directly to Gazprom accounts and kept in Western banks. When, after the start of a special military operation in Ukraine, our Western “friends” stole from us more than 300 billion dollars, in fact they stole what they themselves paid for gas,” the minister emphasized, adding that Western countries are actually “all these have been using our gas for free for years.”

Russia had "decided to transfer the payment for gas in rubles to stop this behavior of the West." the Russian Foreign Minister said.
