"Heydar Aliyev connects Russia and Azerbaijan," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told journalists at the official reception dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
“When they ask what links Russia and Azerbaijan, they usually list high-level political relations, humanitarian and cultural ties, our common history. And I would say that the concrete embodiment of all this is Heydar Aliyev. If we take his fate, it is impossible to separate his life path and professional achievements from the fate of both Azerbaijan and Russia. You know, these days we have remembered a lot about Heydar Aliyev. We remembered his work as one of the leaders of the Soviet Union, his contribution to the development of the country's regions. The greatness of Heydar Aliyev also consisted in the fact that he raised his son, who repeated and continued his path. There were worthy, professional people who made history. But not everyone was destined to multiply history with their son. In my opinion, this very moment is the true indicator of his greatness,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
