During the summit of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Vladimir Putin proposed granting the CIS an observer status upon unification. The anniversary meeting of the CSTO was held on Monday, May 16, in Moscow, APA reports citing CNTV.

The President of the Russian Federation noted the need to build up cooperation with partners in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the CIS. “By the way, in our opinion, it would be appropriate and correct – we have to discuss this – to provide the CIS with an observer status at the CSTO,” he added.
