Russia needs an iron guarantee that Ukraine and Georgia will never join NATO, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov, who represented Moscow at the Russia-US dialogue in Geneva APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
Ryabkov said that Russia “cannot retreat” from its demand for a promise that “Ukraine and Georgia will never, ever become members of NATO”.
"We do not trust the other side, so to say. We need iron-clad, waterproof, bulletproof, legally binding guarantees. Not assurances, not safeguards, guarantees with all the words 'shall, must', everything that should be put in, 'never ever becoming a member of NATO'. It’s a matter of Russia’s national security." Ryabkov said.
