A number of airline companies have applied to the Georgian Civil Aviation Agency (GCAA) in order to carry out regular direct flights between Georgia and Russia, APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports citing GCAA.

According to the agency, a decision on each application will be made after a detailed investigation of the status of the airline and its airctaft in relation of the international sanctions.

"Georgia's firm position is that flights between Georgia and the Russian Federation can be carried out only by airline companies and planes that are not subject to sanctions,"it was said.

Noted that GCAA is currently studying and consulting with the experience of countries that carry out direct flights with the Russian Federation, but at the same time comply with sanctions.
