In Moscow, from January 6 to 10, up to 29 degrees below zero is expected, which will make this five-day period the coldest in this century, said Roman Vilfand, scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia, APA reports citing newsRussiaposts.

And before that, there will be a rather pleasant temperature in the capital – only 2-6 degrees below zero.

“A very sharp cold snap, a cold collapse is simple, it will be on January 6. At night, frosts will be up to 20–22 degrees, and during the day there will also be no heat – up to 18-20 degrees. On Christmas night they will get even stronger – up to 27 degrees, and on January 8 – even up to 29 degrees. The temperature background during the day, including January 9, when everyone will go to work, will be about minus 20 degrees. This will be the coldest five-day period in the last 23 years, that is, since the beginning of the 21st century,” Vilfand said.

As the meteorologist emphasized, such a long period of abnormally cold weather is a dangerous meteorological phenomenon. He noted that even if the temperature drops seven degrees below the climatic norm and stays within these limits for more than five days, it is dangerous. In this case, we are talking about a drop of 15 degrees, that is, we should expect “severe and fierce” frosts.
