Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov underscored that granting Ukraine and Moldova European Union candidate status is part of the "geopolitical gambit" against Russia, he wrote in an article for the Russian newspaper Izvestia, APA reports.

Lavrov emphasized that Washington-led Europe, which is based on anti-Russian sentiment, suffers from impulsive sanctions and weapon supply to Kiev, along with the close cooperation with NATO, and the EU's so-called "strategic autonomy" is nothing more than a show. The Russian foreign minister stated that "the collective West's foreign policy is a "one-man theater."

The head of the Russian foreign ministry added the "European Political Community," proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron will not guarantee financial or economic benefits, but will encourage all countries, "from Iceland to Ukraine," to participate, excluding Russia, while promoting solidarity with the EU's anti-Russia policy.
