The People's Artist of Russia, composer Sergei Slonimsky, died in St. Petersburg, at the 88th year of his life, APA reports citing TASS.

“Today, at 11:00, after a long illness, in the 88th year of his life, Sergey Slonimsky died,” he said.

It is noted that the funeral is planned on Thursday, February 13, at Komarovsky cemetery.

Slonimsky was a professor at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, a laureate of the State Prize of Russia named after M.I. Glinka, government prizes of St. Petersburg and others. During his life, he wrote 34 symphonies, eight operas, three ballets, created chamber, vocal music, and was also the author of music for films and theatrical productions.
