The delegation headed by the Director-General of the Islamic Organization for Science, Education, and Culture (ICESCO) Salim bin Mohammed al-Malik visited the territories liberated from occupation on January 12, the Ministry of Culture told APA.
According to the Ministry, the purpose of the visit is to familiarize with the consequences of the destruction of the historical, cultural, and religious heritage of Azerbaijan during the occupation by the Armenian armed forces.
The delegation was accompanied by the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Anar Kerimov, Permanent Representative of our country to ICESCO Ogtay Gurbanov, Secretary-General of the National Commission of Azerbaijan for ICESCO Vasif Eyvazzadeh, Deputy Head, Acting Head of the State Service for Protection, Development, and Restoration of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture Azad Jafarli, representatives of the departments of information and public relations, international cooperation and innovative development of the ministry.
The visit of the delegation began from the Fizuli region. The guests were greeted by the head of the Fuzuli region executive power Aly Aliyev.
First, the ICESCO delegation examined the ruins of the city of Fuzuli and the traces of Armenian vandalism in the city cemetery. The Armenians dismantled marble tombstones here and destroyed some of the graves for the purpose of ruin.
During the inspection of the ruins of the destroyed Juma mosque in the city, it was noted that the Armenians, like in our other mosques in the occupied regions kept cattle and pigs here. The members of the delegation noted that such desecration and destruction of Islamic religious monuments are contrary to humanity.
The ICESCO delegation visited the ancient caravanserai and the remains of the 17th century mosque in the Gargabazar village, as well as the ruins of the destroyed mosque building in the Gochakhmedli village became a direct witness to the vandalism committed by the Armenians.
Then the delegation visited the Agdam region, where they examined the building of the Juma mosque, the ruins of the bread museum, and the drama theater.
It should be noted that the delegation includes the head of the ICESCO science and innovation sector Rahil Gamar, the head of the culture sector of the organization Mahammad Zain Alabden, the head of the ICESCO partnership and international cooperation sector and the Center for Civilizational Dialogue Khalid Fatih Al-Rahman and others.
The visit of ICESCO Director-General to Azerbaijan will last until January 15.
