People's Artist of the USSR Vasily Lanovoy died at the age of 88, his wife, actress Irina Kupchenko said, APA reports citing TASS.

"Vasily Semyonovich died," she told.

On January 2, Lanovoy and his wife passed tests for coronavirus infection with a positive result.

The actor was hospitalized.

On January 28, it was reported that he was transferred to intensive care.

Lanovoy is known for the films Scarlet Sails, Officers, Days of the Turbins, War and Peace, Seventeen Moments of Spring and many others.

Since 1957 he served at the theater.
