Azerbaijani historian: "Calling Blue mosque in Yerevan as an Iranian mosque must be stopped"

"Blue mosque is the only mosque that survived in Yerevan today. This mosque has been in the territory of the Tepebashı settlement," said historian Sabuhi Huseynov today in the presentation of an investigation on "Fate of Tapabashi settlement, which is the last vestige of the national-cultural, historical heritage of Azerbaijan in Yerevan city: Destruction of the heritage of Azerbaijani people in Armenia and elimination of historical signs", APA reports.

Historian noted that Blue Mosque was constructed by Huseynali khan: "There is information in the recent studies that Huseynali khan has been buried in the Blue mosque. A stone inscription belonging to 1790 in the garden of the Blue mosque belongs to one of the women from the family of khan. All documents regarding the Blue mosque are in Azerbaijan's archive. Calling the Blue mosque an Iranian mosque by Iran is unacceptable. There are many documents in the archive of Sheikh ul Islam. Blue mosque must be recognized as an Azerbaijani mosque in the world. In total, up to 100 Persians lived in Yerevan in 1917. Majority of those living in Yerevan until 1831-1920 have been Azerbaijanis. Today, well-known researchers in the world laugh at calling the Blue mosque an Iranian mosque. A mosque would not be constructed for 100 people, it should be put an end to call the Blue mosque an Iranian mosque".
