Adopting a child is being prohibited to people who have an average monthly salary per person in a family below the amount of minimum wage in Azerbaijan, APA reports.

İt is proposed to add a new 120.1.8 paragraph to Article 120 of the Family Code (People entitled to adopt).

According to the new paragraph, people (stepfather, stepmother) who have average monthly income per every person in their family (also considering the child who will be adopted) below the amount of minimum wage determined by the country (twice amount of the average monthly salary per country they reside for foreigners or stateless citizens who want to adopt children that are citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan), close relatives (excluding grandmother-grandfather, sister-brother, sisters of parents, their children) can not adopt a child.

Amendment to the Family Code will be discussed in the Azerbaijani Parliament soon.
