84.1% of respondents to unequivocally vote for Ilham Aliyev – survey

Some 84.1 percent of respondents in a survey conducted by the ELS Independent Studies Center said they will unequivocally vote for Ilham Aliyev at the April 11 presidential election in Azerbaijan.

In the run-up to the presidential election in Azerbaijan, the ELS Independent Studies Center Public Association conducted a survey of 1,580 respondents in 68 districts (excluding the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the occupied areas) of Azerbaijan in February-March this year to assess the socio-political and socio-economic situation in the country, electoral activity, as well as to determine the Azerbaijani population’s attitude to topical issues.

During the presentation of the survey results, Irade Yagubova, chairperson of the ELS Independent Studies Center, noted that 50.4 percent of the Azerbaijani settlements covered by the survey account for cities, 6.2 percent for townships, and 43.4 percent for villages.

The respondents were asked who they will vote for if the presidential election were to take place next week. So the respondents answered the question on the assumption of the 11 April election.

Answering the question about participation in elections, 66.5 percent of the respondents said they always took part in the elections held in Azerbaijan and will vote in April 11 election. Some 26.1 percent of the respondents said perhaps they will participate in April 11 election, while 6.8 percent of the respondents said they never participated in elections. Some 0.6 percent of the respondents refused to answer the question.

At the next stage, the respondents were asked who they voted for in the 2013 presidential election. Some 83.3 percent of the respondents said they voted for Ilham Aliyev, while 1.2 percent of the respondents said they supported other candidates. Some 8.6 percent of the respondents said they did not participate in the election because of various reasons, including the suffrage age; 6.9 percent of the respondents found it difficult to answer the question.

Some 84.1 percent of respondents said they will unequivocally vote for Ilham Aliyev in the upcoming presidential election, while 0.2 percent of the respondents intend to support other candidates. Some 9.2 percent of the respondents said they have not yet made a choice.

Thus, the results of the survey give the ground to say that as before, today Azerbaijani voters does not se an alternative to President Ilham Aliyev, considers his previous presidential term to be satisfactory and clearly wants to see the country under his leadership during the next presidential term.
