Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov has commented on whether the National Council’s rally scheduled for March 10 would run contrary to the pre-election campaign.

Panahov said the pre-election campaign for the forthcoming presidential election is due to commence on March 19 and rallies in connection with the campaign must not begin before March 19, APA reports.

"However, the actions of political parties in other areas are regulated by other laws. Of course, if people take to the streets to conduct an election campaign and expresses their attitude towards the election, it is already a breach of the Electoral Code. It is the CEC that has authority over acts concerning the election. The CEC does not comment on other issues, and we do not have the authority to express views. I think that political parties are quite experienced, and I do not believe that someone would violate the Electoral Code's requirement on pre-election campaign,” he added.
