Azerbaijan, which gained independence for the second time in 1991, faced a lot of difficulties. The authority at the time made the country become unmanageable, our lands were occupied, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The president made the remarks at an official reception on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku on May 28, APA reports.
The head of state noted that the people saw that the salvation depends on Heydar Aliyev: ‘Because Heydar Aliyev had done a lot of works for the country in the first period of his power. He had protested January 20 tragedy in Moscow. After Heydar Aliyev came to power in 1993 for the second time, the independence strengthened, our country began to develop. After 2003 the dynamic development of the country was provided’.
President Aliyev said that Azerbaijan has turned into a country of sport: ‘Today, independent Azerbaijan is a source of pride for every Azerbaijani. We made dreams of founders of Azerbaijan People’s Republic come true. We built a state that every Azerbaijani is proud of this state. I’m sure that if the founders of People’s Republic saw today, they would be proud of our country. Our fate is in our hand. Today’s Azerbaijan shows that our independence is our wealth, happiness. Our independence is forever’.
