CEC: Azerbaijan on par with leading European countries in terms of election
- 11 October 2016
Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. Azerbaijan keeps up with leading European countries in terms of election process, said Mazahir Panahov, chairman of the country’s Central Election Commission (CEC).
The CEC has fulfilled its duties on the 26 September referendum to the fullest extent, Panahov told a commission meeting in Baku Oct. 11.
“There were no offences on the part of media, either. This is because the professionalism of journalists was high and electoral subjects were well-informed. Police too did their job proficiently,” he said.
The CEC chairman stressed that even the most biased observers did not record any fact of government interference in the process.
“This term (government interference) has been forgotten. Azerbaijan keeps up with leading European countries in terms of election processes,” he added.
The referendum to make amendments to Azerbaijan’s Constitution was held on Sept. 26.
The voter turnout throughout the country stood at 69.7 percent, or 3,671,707 people. According to the Election Code, the referendum was considered valid.
