Baku. Mubariz Aslanov – APA. No Turkish military base is being created on the territory of Azerbaijan, Ziyafat Asgarov, the first vice-speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, chairman of the parliamentary security, defense and anti-corruption Committee, told APA on Friday.

Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on July 20 to approve the protocol “On allocating buildings and structures in ‘Gizil Sherg’ military town, one terminal building located in the airfield in Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev settlement for the use of the personnel of the Turkish Armed Forces,” that was signed by Azerbaijani and Turkish governments July 3, 2016.

Commenting on the presidential decree, Asgarov said that the allocation of area near Baku for the use of Turkish military can not be regarded as a military base.

“NATO planes fly to Afghanistan over the territory of Azerbaijan. Pilots of Turkish military aircraft carrying Azerbaijani peacekeepers to Afghanistan will rest in that area. Here we are talking about only a few rooms, not a military base,” he added.
