President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has set serious tasks before executive authorities to ensure holding of transparent elections, said Zeynal Naghdaliyev, president’s assistant for territorial and organizational issues, head of department.

Naghdaliyev made the remarks at a meeting held for heads of the district election commissions, APA reports.

"A lot has been achieved in the fields of presidential, parliamentary, municipal elections and referendums. International organizations always state that progress has been achieved in the field of election,” he said.

The presidential assistant noted that district elections commissions play an essential role in the democratic and transparent holding of the voting process.

“President Ilham Aliyev has set serious tasks before executive authorities to ensure holding of transparent and democratic election. In the past, district elections commissions would be abolished and heads of executive authorities would be dismissed from their posts following the voting. These do not happen any more,” he added.

According to the presidential assistant, the main condition for holding democratic elections is social and political stability.

"Azerbaijan is one of the exemplary countries in this sphere. At the heart of stability is the unity of government and people. The environment in our country has changed. People no longer live in the country that was 15 years ago. They live in a developed country, where the traditions of democracy have further developed,” he added.
