“We have seen EITI demonstrating double standards and biased attitude towards Azerbaijan since 2013. I repeatedly stated that if this attitude continues, Azerbaijan will quit EITI. Some “experts” said that Azerbaijan’s quit EITI will cause problems to take loans. To note that there is no problem in funding of Azerbaijan’s main project. $2 billion has been attracted from all financial sources, including private organizations for funding of the Southern Gas Corridor. WB, ADB, Asian Infrastructure Bank have provided the funding. The next claim was that Azerbaijan quits the EITI in order to hide all data. These claims are groundless. Because on April 5, 2017 president Ilham Aliyev signed an decree on additional measures on increase of transparency and accountability in extractive industry. According to the decree, Azerbaijan has created a Commission on Extractive Industries Transparency. The Commission has already held its first meeting. We don’t intend to hide data by quitting EITI. We’ll publish more comprehensive report and involve independent auditor in this process. ”

Movsumov added that If EITI puts end to dual standards, Azerbaijan may consider membership issue.
