104 years pass since the liberation of Baku, APA reports.

After Azerbaijan declared its independence on May 28, 1918, the country was divided into two parts, and the Baku Council of People's Commissars, established by the Bolshevik-Dashnak alliance, took power in the capital.

Bolshevik-Dashnak armed units committed genocide against the local population in the regions of Azerbaijan they controlled, killing people en masse. From June armed groups of Bolsheviks launched large-scale operations in order to bring the western regions of Azerbaijan under their influence. The Bolshevik-Dashnak formations advancing in the direction of Shamakhi looted all the Azerbaijani villages on the road and killed the civilian population. Taking into account the situation, Caucasian Islamic Army commanded by Nuru Pasha was sent to help Azerbaijan People's Republic.

Caucasian Islamic Army and Azerbaijan’s newly organized National Army units defeated Bolshevik-dashnak units near Goychay and advanced towards Baku. Army units moved in several directions towards the capital liberated from the occupation Shamakhi, Kurdamir and other residential settlements. After battles lasting until noon on September 15, Caucasian Islamic Army liberated Baku city from the occupation, and the next day the official parade of the Caucasian Islamic Army and Azerbaijani troops was held in the current Sahil Garden.

It should be noted that a monument was erected in Baku in honor of the savior Turkish soldier.
