Adoption of this law is a requirement of the new era, a necessity that arose after our victory, said Azerbaijani MP Fazil Mustafa during the discussion of the draft law on “Political parties” in the first reading at the joint meeting of the Committee for Public Associations and Religious Institutions, the Human Rights Committee of Milli Majlis, APA reports.

He stressed that there is one leading party in Azerbaijan: “The goal of a political party should be to come into power. And this is not realistic in the current situation. The parties should think about benefiting the state's work. If the party is founded, they want us to hold the founding congress again according to the law. The law is not retroactive. We should understand this already”.

F. Mustafa believes adding to the draft the article on the non-suspension of parties during an epidemic, state of emergency, or, martial law: “Parties may also operate online”.
