Azerbaijan will start to produce Euro-5 diesel fuel

The Baku Oil Refinery named after Heydar Aliyev, which is on the balance of SOCAR, is scheduled to start production of gasoline in accordance with EURO-5 standards in June-July 2023, Deputy General Director of SOCAR Downstream Emil Alkhasli told journalists, APA reports.

According to him, it is planned to start production of diesel fuel in accordance with the EURO-5 standard in the third quarter of this year: "Work on the reconstruction and modernization project is currently at the level of commissioning of facilities."

The company official added that first the hydrogen plant will be put into operation, and then other facilities will be put into operation in stages, and this process will continue until the middle of next year. A hydrogen unit is needed to clean diesel fuel and gasoline.

He noted that as a result, the plant produces 2 million tons a year. tons of gasoline will be produced. 60% of this volume will fall on EU-92 gasoline and 40% on EU-95 gasoline.

Emil Alkhasli stressed that one of the main goals of the reconstruction and modernization is to fully meet the country's demand for gasoline and diesel by 2040. The remaining fuel will be exported.

The deputy director also said that the first phase of the reconstruction and modernization project will be completed in 2023, and the second phase is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027. As a result of the project, the refinery will be able to process oil from all Caspian countries.

It should be noted that the annual processing capacity of the refinery is 6.5 million. tons."
