Number of Turkish tourists visiting Azerbaijan increased by 5 %

2 867 TEU containers were transported via Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway last year, Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev said while his speech at the Azerbaijani-Turkish business forum held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.

According to him, this figure was 2 544 TEU container in January-August of the current year. 171,000 tons of goods were transported from Turkey to Central Asia and back in January-July of 2019 with trucks and this is 123 % more compared to the same period of 2018.

“Azerbaijan and Turkey together write the energy history of the 21st century. This cooperation does not only benefits the economies of our countries but also contributes to the energy security of Europe,” the Minister stated.

He also added that cooperation in the field of tourism between the two countries is developing. Thus, the number of visitors from Turkey to Azerbaijan in 2018 was 291 259 standing on the 3rd place and in the first 8 months of 2019, the number became 203 703 and this figure increased by 5.1 % compared to the same period of the previous year.

"Abolition of entry visas for Turkish citizens visiting the country for up to 30 days from September 1, 2019 will also lead to a slight increase in this figure," the minister said.
