10 skiers buried in an avalanche in a ski resort in Switzerland, 1 dead

Avalanche killed 10 people in the ski resort of Verbier in Switzerland on Monday, one of them, a citizen of Great Britain, according to the website of the Valais police, APA reports citing Freed News.

It is specified that another person was injured. The other skiers were not injured.

The avalanche occurred outside the ski track; rescuers helped the skiers to get out of the snow.

The local prosecutor’s office opened an investigation into the accident.

Earlier on the same day an avalanche occurred at a ski slope on Mount Mussa-Achitar in Dombai village in Karachaevo-Cherkessia Republic. One person died as a result of the avalanche. His body was extracted from under the snow.

As it was reported in the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the snow could have covered 4 to 12 people. In addition, two carriages with ski rental equipment were under the snow. The cafe was also damaged by the snow mass. Six people were able to get out of the snow.

Rescue work after the avalanche is complicated by adverse weather conditions. Also the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the agency will more than triple the group of rescuers, working at the scene of an avalanche in Dombai.
