The Government will soon begin to "fire up the engines of this vast UK economy" Boris Johnson has said, in his first statement since returning to work this morning, APA reports citing The Telegraph.

Standing on the steps of Downing Street the Prime Minister urged the country to "contain your impatience" until the "first phase of this conflict" was over.

He said: "I understand your impatience, I share your anxiety... I share your urgency. I want to get this economy moving as fast as I can, but I refuse to throw away all of the effort of the British people."

Once we move into the second phase of dealing with coronavirus, we can "begin gradually to refine the economic and social restrictions and one by one to fire up the engines of this vast UK economy," he said.

The Prime Minister's unexpected statement came ahead of his first Cobra meeting with colleagues to discuss the government's response to coronavirus.
