British Minister for the Cabinet Office Michael Gove asserted on Tuesday the United Kingdom hopes to gradually ease coronavirus containment measures after a review that is scheduled for February 15, APA reports citing Teletrader.

"We hope that we'll be able to progressively lift restriction after that. What I can't do, nobody can predict with accuracy, what we will be able to relax and when," he stressed in an interview with Sky News, adding that "the accelerating pace of vaccination" could bring the country closer to achieving that goal.

The UK is currently "facing a race against time" in an attempt to curb the spread of the new COVID-19 variant as the virus is "gathering speed" and putting the healthcare system under "unprecedented pressure," Gove warned.
