Czech shooting: Gunman kills six at hospital in Ostrava - UPDATED

A gunman has killed six people in a hospital waiting room in the Czech city of Ostrava before shooting himself in the head, police say, APA reports citing BBC.

Armed police found the suspect dead from a self-inflicted gunshot in a nearby vehicle after the attack.

Officers said they were called to the hospital in the north-eastern city at 07:19 (06:19 GMT).

According to reports, the shooting took place at a trauma clinic. Part of the hospital was initially locked down.

A doctor inside the hospital told the Aktualne website that staff had been locked in a hallway waiting for the emergency to end.

Four people were killed and two seriously injured after a shooting occured at a hospital in the Czech city of Ostrava on Tuesday, APA reports citing Sputnik.

The country's Interior Minister Jan Hamacek previously confirmed there were several victims in the incident.

According to Hamacek, a regional police unit has been dispatched to the scene.

The attack occurred happened around 7 a.m. (0600 GMT) Tuesday morning. Police evacuated the hospital and were looking for a suspect.

"There is a regional police intervention unit and a rapid deployment unit. Unfortunately, the attack claimed several lives," said Interior Minister Jan Hamacek, reported broadcaster Ceska Televize.

"The intervention is still in progress, I will not comment on any further details. The police are doing everything they can to solve the situation."
