Georgian PM: "We will no longer announce lockdown"

We will no longer announce lockdown. There is no need for this and the country's economy simply cannot withstand it, - Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Gakharia said after the meeting of the Interagency Coordination Council, APA reports citing Georgian Journal.

As Gakharia noted, the government's strategy is changing and is aimed at adaptation to the virus.

"Everyone should understand that today we are in a completely different situation. Back then the strict restrictions and lockdown were an absolutely right decision because we were protecting the health and lives of our citizens because of the high degree of uncertainty and the lack of elementary masks. Today, when the whole world agrees that the most effective way to fight the virus is a mask that reduces the probability of infection by more than 90%. Of course, we will not announce a similar lockdown. There is no need for this and the country's economy simply cannot afford it. In addition, considering that there will be no vaccine tomorrow or the day after tomorrow, coexistence with the virus and fight against the virus will be a long-term process. Consequently, due to this longevity, our strategy changes and it is now aimed at adapting to the virus and managing it”, said the PM.
