Germany registered 1,019 coronavirus fatalities in the past twenty-four hours, which marks the second time the nation saw over 1,000 people dying from the illness in a single day, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) revealed in its update released on Wednesday, APA reports citing Teletrader.

The country's total rises to 36,537 once the newly confirmed deaths are added, while the cumulative number of infections reaches 1,808,647, with another 21,237 people testing positive for the COVID-19.

On December 30, the nation reported a record number of fatalities with 1,129 deaths attributed to the virus.
