Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said on Monday that the coronavirus situation in the country has become "very worrying" and "more stringent measures" are needed to combat the pandemic, noting a nationwide overnight curfew will have to be introduced, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Contre stressed that the situation is serious in all parts of Italy but noted 11 regions are at "high or very high risk." As a result, he noted different measures will be needed depending on the region and stressed movement between high-risk regions will be restricted.

On Sunday, Italy's Health Minister Roberto Speranza stated the country needs to tighten COVID-19 restrictions by Tuesday in order to avoid a "structural collapse." Over the past few days, Italy's newly registered coronavirus cases climbed to around 30,000 per day.
