German Chancellor Angela Merkel asserted on Monday that the current pandemic situation in the country, especially regarding the daily cases, is still too severe for the government to relax the containment measures, APA reports citing Teletrader.

Merkel has previously stated that the entire population will be offered a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of the summer, while a report, published earlier during the day, unveiled that the lockdown will remain in place until the end of February.

Since the pandemic started, Germany has registered more than 2.2 million coronavirus infections, with more than 61,000 deaths attributed to the illness.
